Today I’m unveiling a brand new invitation bundle and I’ve got to be honest, I gave myself a big ol’ pat on the back when it all came together. It’s gorgeous! Not that I’m biased or anything.
My original design inspiration came from a vintage hanky. I was out antiquing and looking through some amazing vintage fabrics when I came across a handkerchief that spoke to me loud and clear. I had to create an invitation inspired by the pretty florals and delicate embroidery. The invitation turned into the latest 15-piece wedding bundle here at Download & Print. And I’m in love.
I’m calling it Artisan Botanical and it comes in three vintage color palettes. There are so many colors introduced through the floral bursts that this bundle will coordinate nicely with a wide range of wedding color themes.

DIY Handkerchief Invitation
Just for grins I thought I’d have a go at recreating the original inspiration, and print the invitation on a DIY hanky. Thanks to an amazing product I stumbled across the hanky invitation turned out better than I could have hoped for. Learn how to make the magic happen for yourself with this easy peasy tutorial.
A Short Hanky History
Worried about printing invitations for your most auspicious day on the humble hanky, better associated with clearing ones nose than your most loveliest of days. Well interestingly, the handkerchief dates back to Ancient China and the Roman Empire, and was often seen as a sign of wealth. During the Chou Dynasty handkerchiefs were used to shield your head from the sun. Handkerchiefs throughout time have been a sign of luxury due to the expensive nature of linen. Roman games were started with the drop of a lady's hanky and competitors were cheered on by waving hankies. In the 16th century handkerchiefs were given to admirers as a flirtatious gesture. During the Great Depression women updated their outfits by changing their hankies, new clothes were out of the question.
Handkerchiefs are still regularly seen today on gentlemen during wedding ceremonies, as a fashion statement rather than for personal hygiene! See these creative ways to fold a pocket hanky, definitely fashion statements! I think an item with such a storied history is very apt for your big day. Whether you fall in love with the vintage hanky inspired design, or you go for the full effect and DIY your own wedding handkerchiefs, the Artisan Botanical invitation suite is sure to add a touch of nostalgia to your nuptials.
