I was just reading one of my favorite party blogs Hostess with the Mostess and was inspired by their recent love birds party theme and tablescape. I love the way they used red and robin egg blue, instead of the typical pink and red for valentines day. In fact, I’ve seen a lot of red and blue used in the wedding and home decor magazines this year.
Taking a design tip from the centerpiece, this invitation template features tree branches with a few leaves. In the tree are two love birds ‘tweeting’ to each other.
Make Your Own Invitations
You can make and print the invitation shown above at home with the template file at the bottom of this post. It’s really easy!
1. Download & Open the template in MS Word
2. Type in your event details
3. Print at home on standard 8.5 x 11 paper
The template yields two 5×7 invitations. After you print simply cut along the trim lines to finish. For a professional look, use a strait edge paper cutter to cut out the invitations. This will make clean, perfectly strait edges to the finished invitation.

Make it Fabulous Tips!
Tip #1: Print the invitation on Paper Source’s ‘Pool’ Cover Stock for that perfect robin egg blue background. Buy their bulk packs of paper and save big time. Cover stock in the range of 60-80 pound will pint on almost all home printers without jamming. Heavy paper is what will make your invitation feel professional.
Tip #2: To contrast with the blue use red envelopes to play up the color theme. A7 envelopes are the size your looking for. I recommend Paper Source’s ‘Red’ Envelopes or Envelope Mall’s ‘Euro Flap Jupiter Red’ Envelopes if you like a little shimmer.
Tip #3: Fonts used in the template for the script font ‘Cursif’ and for event details ‘Copperplate’ . Download both fonts for free on the invitation fonts page. The font page also has directions on how to install fonts on your PC or MAC.

I absolutely LOVE this template. I have been trying to find one in my colors with the love birds on it have not been successful as my colors are silver and black and the “love birds” are usually more colorful. You do a wonderful job though!
Question: How do I remove the wording on the top? Or does it no longer show upon printing?
The wording on the top of the template with the Download & Print logo and copyright information will be cut away when you trim the invitation to the final 5×7 size. You will notice the dotted trim lines when you print, these will guide you where to cut. – Anna Skye
Thanks! One more question, anything in the works where the font and image colors can be changed?
The font in all the templates can be changed in Microsoft Word to any font of your choice that you have installed on your computer. I list the fonts used in my blog post should anyone want to re-create the exact look shown in my sample. As far as colors go I’m working on providing more color options for each design. This is the most common suggestion that I have received and I have a couple of ways of making that happen. Stay tuned! -Anna Skye
LOVE this! You are incredibly talented! Been running around trying to find affordable options for invitations and I’ve found it here! THANKS!
P.S: Is there any way for me to adjust the 5 x 7 to smaller dimensions on my computer?
Tina – Thanks for your comment. You can reduce the size of the invitation by using the ‘scale to fit page’ option when you print from Microsoft Word. Try a 60% reduction to get approximately a 4 x6 invitation. Every printer is a little different, so you may have a little trial and error to get the right percentage. Hope that helps. I do plan on making other sizes available in the future. – Anna
Thanks Anna! Your website is tagged as one of my “favorites.”
Hi Anna Skye!
what a lovely template! I am still in the beginning phase of planning and love everything: birds.
I cant wait for the colour options.. (the red it lovely, just very bright for my invites)
Im hoping a neutral colour option for this one will be posted.
again your designs are wonderful!!
This one is gorgeous. Thank you so very much for sharing these! I have a question… when I download this, the birds show up as a dark mauve color instead of red. It is actually a pretty color, but am just wondering if that is just my computer?
I have the same problem as Natalie. Dark mauve in Word, although I haven’t printed it out to see if it is bright red. It isn’t anywhere close to bright red, though…
Try printing it out. The artwork for the invitation is on a lower layer than the text, so Word makes it a little washed out to denote the layer position. Second the colors on your monitor don’t alway reflect the same color that is printed. Print one out and then let me know how the red looks. Thanks, Anna
I am SO excited to find this invitation. It is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Thank you so much! I have same problem as the other ladies with the color being more of a dark maroon. I printed it out and it still is maroon. Is there a way to change the color to a brighter red?
I really wish this invitation was in purple and green. Or even purple and white. Is there any chance you will be making this option in other colors soon? I would love to use it otherwise. It will fit my theme perfectly!
Hi Anna,
Any updates on the changing of the colors for any of your templates? I do love this one and would love to use it if it was yellow like these billy buttons: http://themanysplendoredthing.blogspot.com/2009/06/bold-beautiful-billy-balls.html
Hi Anna,
I also love this invitation but sadly I can’t incorporate the red colour into my colour scheme. I know this is something you are working on, so any chance of a green colour?!
This is perfect! Is there anyway I could get the bird graphic in yellow? I’d LOVE to put it on my program fans! Please let me know if this option is available, and what you would charge. Thanks!
I would love to see some more shower invites! Maybe like a themed ones? I saw the cutest Working Women’s old 50′s style women themed shower invites. too cute. red and teal. Or a cup cake theme.
its beautiful!! I love it! thank you so much!!!!
oh and Anna, can you please tell me how I can alternate the colors a bit?? thanks again!!!
Your site is so wonderful and you are so generous to share all of the templates with us – for free! I am so grateful! I love this specific template with the two love birds. Even my fiance said it was “cute”, which means “awesome” in guys code. Quick question – I bought precut invitation cards (5 1/8 x 7) and was wondering how to create just one template on the Word document rather than two for printing. Any suggestions/pointers would be so helpful. Quick suggestion – Chocolate brown and fuchsia for an invitation design for any future bride that has the same color theme as me..and even better if you already have one you can share with us now. Thanks Anne! =)
Yen, Thanks for the best compliment! If a guy can say it looks “cute” that’s HUGE! I love the idea of brown for the tree and do the birds in fuchsia. As far as printing on pre-cut card stock, I’ve been receiving tons of questions about pre-cut card stock. One problem is that the design will not bleed off the edge, so you will have a small 1/4″ margin all the way around the invite. You could re-trim the invite after printing, but it would be a little under 5×7 once your done. I’m going to do a test design for the love bird design for pre-cut paper. Give me a few days and I will email you one to try. Thanks for the suggestion!!-Anna
Thanks so much Anna. I’ll play around with the template too and see what I can get. I complete forgot about the printer not being able to print edge-to-edge but I love your idea of just taking 1/8 – 1/4 off if I’m going to keep the pre-cut paper. I’m also thinking of just purchasing 81/2 x 11 paper today and gettig it done this weekend(my mom is hounding me for invites).
P.S. So sorry for spelling your name wrong on the last comment. I guess I was really excited. =)
