FAQs

How do templates become invitations?

Download the template file in either Word or Pages. Type in your event details, including the date, time, location, and RSVP details. Print the template on 8.5 x 11 cardstock or A4 cardstock, depending on the version of the template you are using. Print at home or take to a local copy shop for replication. For a professional edge, use a straight edge paper cutter to trim along the dotted lines to the final size. If a paper cutter is unavailable, scissors will do the trick.

How do I download the templates?

The secure download links for the template files were displayed on the thank you page after you completed your order, and a copy was emailed to you too. If you don’t see the email in your inbox, check your SPAM folder. If it’s been longer than 10-minutes since you ordered and still no email, please contact us.

The templates are grouped by color. Each ZIP file contains the 15 templates in that color palette. This bundle contains six colors, you can download them all or just the ones you need. Save the ZIP file to your computer, then double-click to open and extract the files inside. Save the templates in a place on your computer that’s easy to find, like your Desktop or Documents folder.

What parts of the template can I customize?

You can change the wording, fonts, text placement and font colors. The artwork cannot be edited in Word and the colors cannot be changed. There are a handful of exceptions to this rule where a portion of the text forms part of the design element and cannot be changed. For example, the vintage invitation and RSVP templates have part of the text locked in place.

What type of paper do I need?

We strongly recommend that you do not use pre-cut paper with Download & Print Templates. We design the templates to be printed on 8.5 x 11 cardstock and A4 cardstock because this size will work with all printers, you don’t need to change your printer settings, and it’s the standard for copy shops and local printers.

We recommend cardstock ranging between 65 lb and 90 lb. You can find 8.5 x 11 cardstock at all the big box office stores (Staples, Office Depot, or Office Max) and online. My favorite cardstock to use is Neenah Classic Crest 80lb in Brilliant White or Natural White.

Can I use precut paper?

We strongly recommend that you do not use pre-cut paper with Download & Print Templates. We design the templates to be printed on 8.5 x 11 and A4 cardstock. By using 8.5 x 11 card the templates can be trimmed to size which will give you the effect of a full bleed print, with the design going right to the edge of the paper. This gives your invitations a professional finish. The second advantage to using 8.5 x 11 card is that most of our files print at least two templates per sheet, which will save you on printing costs if you are paying per page. 8.5 x 11 paper is also much more economical than pre-cut paper.

If you do choose to use pre-cut paper, your printer will be unable to print to the edge of the paper and will leave a white border around the invitation.

How do I remove the Download & print Logo and Copyright from the template?

The Download & Print logo is outside the trim lines. All our templates are designed to print on 8.5 x 11 and A4 cardstock and be trimmed to size. After customizing the template with your wording, you will print and trim along the trim lines. The logo will be on the scrap of paper that you discard and will not be displayed on your finished product.

What fonts are used in the sample templates?

All fonts used in Download & Print templates are available for a free download at various sites online. When you first open the template, if you don’t have the font installed on your computer, Word will substitute a different font that you do have available. The font names used in your templates can be found in your bundle documentation, and you will find links to the free downloads above. Install the fonts on your computer, then open Word and the templates.

The free font websites are full of ads. When you visit these sites please only click on the font download button. Any other button is an ad and will take you to a download that you don’t need.

How do I print the templates?

It’s very similar to anything else you’ve printed at home. Select ‘File > Print’. This will bring up the printer window where you select the number of copies to print. I recommend printing one copy first. This will give you a chance to look over your design, check your spelling, and make sure that everything lines up the way that you like. This would also be a good opportunity to have a second set of eyes look at your design. There is nothing worse than printing 100 invitations only to discover a spelling mistake!

How do I print a double sided template, like the program booklets?

Open your first file in Word and print one copy and collect it from the printer. Reload this sheet into your printer, other side up. Open your second file with the reverse side of the design and print. You may need to experiment by printing a few copies to work out which way to load the paper to print the second side. Once you are happy with the result, you can print all the first sides. Reload these sheets and print all the second sides.

Can I print at a local copy shop or professional printer?

Yes. You can bring the template on a thumb drive or email it to a print shop. In Word, save the template as a .DOC file. Most commercial printers or copy shops can work with a .DOC or .PDF files.

How do I save my file as a PDF?

In Word, select File > Print > Save as PDF. Name the file and select the location where you want the file saved.

How do I merge several templates into one document to send to a print shop?

Online printers often charge by the document, so having all your templates (like a full wedding suite) in one file will save you money. First save your documents as PDFs, see above for details on this. Open the first file in Acrobat. Select File > Combine > Merge Files into a Single PDF. Once in the Combine Files dialog box, choose Add Files… > Add Files… Select all the files you wish to merge either one at a time, or by holding down the shift key and selecting a range of files. Choose Add Files. Drag the file names around into the order that you wish them to be on your final document. Select Combine Files. Enter a file name and location for the merged document and Save.

What size paper or envelopes do I need?

You only need one size of paper, 8.5 x 11 or A4 for Europeans. Cardstock is readily available in this size at most office supply stores and online. After printing your templates, trim along the dotted lines to the finished size. Most of our invitations fit A7, A6, or 4-Bar envelopes. The required envelope sizes are listed in the bundle product documentation you received with your order, and our favorite online envelope supplies can be found here.

Can I try a template before I buy?

Absolutely! Visit our freebie template area to try one of our free templates. Experiment changing the colors, text, and fonts. You can print out copies and get a second opinion before committing.

What are the computer requirements?

Microsoft Word 97-2010, MAC or PC, or Mac Pages. The templates are not compatible with Microsoft Works. We have had clients use the templates in Open Office with success, but we are unable to support this program.

Can I use these templates to make and sell invitations?

Our templates are for personal (non-commercial) use only. We do make an exception to Event Planners and Event Facilities that wish to use Download & Print templates as part of a client’s event. We allow the templates to be purchased and downloaded with the intention that one end user shall enjoy them. We offer an affiliate program for party and event planners interested in using the templates for clients.

Can I get the templates in a different color?

Absolutely. We offer a customization service, and are happy to change the colors, size and format of the templates to meet your vision. We love making you fall in love with your wedding stationery! One of our designers will customize each individual template for you, working with you to get the colors and style perfect. A color change on a complete bundle starts at $65. Design changes are priced based on the complexity of the work involved.
